Mahathir - Anwar Nobel Peace prize nomination would be destabilising KUALA LUMPUR (AFX-ASIA) - Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said a Nobel Peace prize nomination for jailed former deputy Anwar Ibrahim would be designed to "destabilize" Malaysia. "The Nobel Peace prize is not a peace prize. It is a political prize. They give awards as Nobel prizes so as to ensure that these people can do what they like," he said in response to questions at a press conference.

"It is no more a peace price. There is no peace. In fact, the idea is to ensure there is a (political) struggle and to destabilize the country," he said.

His comments followed recent reports that Anwar may be nominated for the peace prize.
