DOUBLE STANDARDS BY POLICE IN THE RECENT ESCAPE OF 153 AFRICANS CASE AS OPPOSED TO THE KAMPUNG MEDAN TRAGEDY / MALLIKA CASE.

MEDIA STATEMENT (8.02.2002)

DOUBLE STANDARDS BY POLICE IN THE RECENT ESCAPE OF 153 AFRICANS CASE AS OPPOSED TO THE KAMPUNG MEDAN TRAGEDY / MALLIKA CASE.

We applaude congratulate and welcome the decision of the Police in taking firm and swift action against (within one week) even against very senior police officers in the case involving the escape of 153 Africans as per the front page Headlines today in the NST “Police Suspended” The Star “Copssuspended” and The Sun “senior cops suspended”.

However in an incident one thousand times more serious than the African case ie the Kampung Medan tragedy where 100 over innocent people were killed and / or seriously injured for “unknown reasons” and falsely labeled as “racial clashes” and the Mallika’s case where 15 Police Reports have been lodged and the family being repeatedly attacked by gangsters 10 times over and over, her 8 year old daughter raped, nine year old son assaulted and finally her husband brutally murdered there has been clearly an absence of serious police action and / or glaring police inaction.

Up to date in the Mallika case no one has been charged for the said rape, assaults attacks or even the murder.

In the Kampung Medan tragedy up to date no one has been charged for the murder of the six innocent people . Neither has the police charged anyone for manslaughter and / or for causing grevious bodily harm despite this being the height of injustices in the country and the worst form of violation of human rights in the history of Malaysia despite dozens of Appeals / Calls / Letters Suhakam and the Government of Malaysia has also refused to hold an Open Inquiry to establish the truth as the innocent victims “merely involve the poor, illeterate and the most marginalized sector of the working class Malaysian Indian Community.

Justice should prevail for all irrespective of race colour creed and religion pursuant to Article 8 of the Federal Constitution. But the very glaring evidence is that there appears to be “double standards” by the Royal Malaysian Police Force.

Thank You.

Yours Faithfully,
